Mr. Salt: Sweetheart, I can't let you keep a person.  That's illegal, and besides I'm sure her parents will object.
Veruca Salt: You promised, Daddy! You promised I could have any pet I wanted!
Mrs. Salt: We're going to be very unpopular around here, Veruca, if the public finds out you have a human pet.
Mr. Salt: It breaks my heart, Harriet. I hate to see her unhappy.
Veruca Salt: I won't talk to you ever again! You're a mean father, you'll never give me anything I want! And I won't go to school till I have her!
Mr. Salt: Veruca, sweetheart, angel. Now, there are many types of pets in the whole world, and the law says we can't keep humans! What can I do?
Mrs. Salt: Well dear, you can make a large donation to the Mayor. I'm sure your good friend will allow us this small favor.
Veruca Salt: Oh Daddy, yes! Pleeeeze! I promise I will train her properly, keep her quiet, and I already bought her a proper collar and leash.  Pleeze Daddy?
Mr. Salt: Alright Veruca. Absolutely anything for my Darling girl! I'll call the Mayor in the morning.
Veruca Salt: Oh Daddy I love you, you're the best father EVER!  Now come on pet, follow me to my room. No, not on your feet. You'll need to crawl. Come along...quickly now! We need to fit that collar!
